Switching between a https and http page can be drag sometimes. Once a user hits a secure page they should also be able to request a page that doesn't need to be secure. An example scenario would be that you need to secure a login page, yet you don't want your product page to secure. The dance between https:// and http:// can be a tricky one when you consider browser alerts and what not. I've been told 3 times by 3 different arrogant jerky developers that it wasn't possible to jump between http:// and https:// pages without throwing an alert box.. so you here tis.

Put this little snippet in your Page_Load call:

Utilities.Security.IsSecuredPage(true);

Create a .cs file called Security.cs.. place it in a folder called Utilities if you so desire.. adjust namespace to taste.

now here is the meat, with the bad formatting, but paste inside your friendly IDE and you should be fine.

so for you stinking nay sayers.. here it is... this works.. maybe there is a better way but this redirects to non secure pages and vice versa and doesn't throw an alert box, so it's meets the requirements.

TIP: String Arrays & ArrayLists

If you're like me, you hate working with string arrays, but sometimes they are a necessary evil when you're working with things like WebServices. So here's a little work around for when you're in situations where you need dynamic arrays lengths. It's much easier to build an ArrayList and convert it to a string array.

Dang.

Sometimes I feel like a real scatterbrain and it dawns on me how unorganized I can be periodically. But for this one, i'm going to put some of the blame on corporate mergers.

I few years back I registered the domain CsharpFlash.com. I like C# and I like Flash technologies, so it seemed like a good fit for a future dev type of site. Or maybe Macromedia would get bought buy Microsoft and I'd get a call from Mr. Bill begging me for the domain name. Turns out Adobe buys Macromedia, oh well.

Anywhooo, when I registered the domain, I had just moved to CO and was using an @attbi.com email address for my cable innnernet access. So for the registar at GoDaddy.com I had that email address as my contact email. Well, Comcast comes along and buys AT&T broadband services and decides to discontinue all @attbi.com email addresses.

Short story long, I never got the renewal notices and the domain expired and some other opportunistic yokel snatched it up from me. Cest la vie.

I also stopped receiving email from the email rico@csharpflash.com (please spam) about a year and a half ago so I apologize to anyone that's been emailing that address thinking they were getting me.

well, gotta go bang my head against the wall some more..

We were paid a visit from a blast from the past a few weeks back. Our good friend Greg W. was in town for work and took time out of his schedule for a trip up to the ol Waldvogel house. It was great to see him and get caught up on old times and more importantly, discuss the pleasures of parenthood, as Greg is a newbie dad as well.

We took the token pictures that one does when they have access to a digital camera and were suprised to find this little nugget (no pun intended) in the collection and picked it (pun intended) for display, because these type of things just crack me up.

Parenting Stripes

Me and Susan got another set of parenting stripes yesterday! We learned first hand that babies with full bellies and windy mountain roads are not a good mix at all. Our car now has the distinct smell of sour milk, yogurt and whatever else she was eating before we left. Raina was a trooper about the whole incident but alas mom and dad are still a little scarred from the ordeal.

Note to self: put bucket and change of clothes in car for future road trips.

Note to baby seat manufacturers: less crooks and crannies please..

Sorry all for the blackout. I've been hosting waldvogel.us on my machine at home. I've ran updates on it for awhile and paid the price when the machine got hacked. doh. anyways.. this will be our new home for the time being.
